Emmanuel Macron India Tour: French President Emmanuel Macron has been greatly impressed by India’s digital payment system Unified Payment Interface (UPI). Macron met the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan Draupadi Murmu During his speech at the official banquet organized by PM Modi, he talked about the UPI system, through which PM Modi had paid the shopkeeper after having tea with him in Jaipur.
In his speech at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Macron, using the Hindi word for tea, said he would not forget the tea he had with PM Modi. He said, “I will never forget the tea we had together near Hawa Mahal in Jaipur. It was tea paid for through UPI. It is the warmth of friendship and such celebration, tradition. That is what We want to do it together.”

PM Modi had given information about UPI to Macron
In a video posted on After tea, PM Modi was seen paying for tea through UPI. He had shown the entire process of making payment through UPI to French President Macron. When the shopkeeper received the money as soon as the payment was made, the French President was a little surprised. Modi had told Macron in detail about the UPI system.
There was talk of starting UPI system in France also in 2023.
During his visit to France in July last year, PM Modi had said that Indian travelers would soon be able to make payments using UPI in France. The Prime Minister had said, “India and France have now agreed to use UPI in France.
